Corel DRAW Certification (CDC) Session I

A three part series of Corel DRAW classes are being offered for certification in the program that will build the drawings and files for use on the laser cutter, vinyl cutter, poster printer and banner printer. With these four pieces of equipment there is a tremendous variety of materials and possibilities for making. After completing Corel DRAW I, II & III you will receive Certification and will be able to create whatever you can imagine with ease.

Japanese Style Folding Screen

Cost $65

Sat., Dec. 10, 10-2

QuickStart CNC router woodworking project. We will start with a pre-designed file, modify it with your own design for the screen sections, create toolpaths and learn basic finishing techniques. A final application of mulberry paper for the panels. This is a full scale project with construction very similar to the Japanese style lamp and is a nice progression in skills. No prior computer or woodworking skills necessary. Ages 12 and up. These are full size 5 foot tall screens and all materials are provided.

Japanese Style Lamp

QuickStart CNC router project. Learn to use basic power and hand tools in the wood shop to build the frames of your Japanese Style Lamp. This class will cover all that you need to know to use our new CNC router. We will start with a pre-designed file, modify it with your own design for the center and our sheet material, create toolpaths and learn basic finishing techniques. Apply a paper “skin” install an LED light and you have a Japanese Lamp. No prior computer or woodworking skills necessary. Ages 12 and up.

Winter Wonderland Dioramas

Cost $35

Sat., November 19, 9:30 – noon

If you can use a glue stick you can make your own unique diorama complete with a hidden LED light strip to make your Winter Wonderland glow. There will be an abundance of laser cut winter scenery pieces to choose from to build a diorama unique to you. These are fun for all ages and if you bring the family you can do a series to tell a story! Also available will be laser cut garlands to make paper wreaths for the holidays.

Casting metal from 3D resin prints Nov 5

Cost $35 + cost of materials

Sat., Nov. 5, 10-2, and Sat., Nov. 12, 10-2

Beginners learn about several free CAD programs you can use to create 3D forms anywhere there is a computer. QuickStart tutorials get you designing jewelry and objects of your own in less than 45 minutes. We will discuss design principals in making whatever you are going to cast in metal be it small sculpture, jewelry or game pieces. This is a great class to practice what you have learned in your previous 3D CAD classes or for the first time at CAD.

2nd Annual Halloween and Day of the Dead PARTY

Sat. Oct. 29, 11 – 2

MS307 joins forces with 4-H, the UW Extension office, UW EPSCoR and Poetics of Peace for a fun filled day for the family. We will show scary movies on our big screen, make popcorn balls in the UW Kitchen with 4-H, UW EPSCoR will have you playing with fire and ghostly vapor; in Maker Space 307 we will make ghost shackles, shrunken heads, haunted houses; Day of the Dead Masks and Papel Picado, a Mexican Folk Tradition of cut paper and selling Papel Picado T-shirts; Poetics of Peace will be selling traditional authentic Mexican food. Come for lunch and a lot of fun for the whole family.

E-Cut techniques

E-Cut techniques: Making Vector Files for laser and vinyl cutter

Cost $35

Sat. Sept. 17 9:30 – noon

Learn how to generate vector drawings in Corel Draw and export these drawings to be cut in the laser cutter and vinyl cutter. With these two kinds of electronic output you will make vinyl decals and laser cut felt, paper or wood. It is not possible to cut all of your objects during the class so further cut time will be scheduled for each student.
